The HBCU Battle of the Brains is a cross-discipline competition where student teams from HBCUs across the country will develop a solution to a complex issue, then pitch that solution in front of judges, as well as a live audience.
Registration for the HBCU Battle of the Brains is free! However, travel to and from Austin, and lodging are the responsibility of each participating school. Meals and transportation between official venues and host hotel will be provided to participating students throughout the weekend. The HBCU Battle of the Brains will provide teams that registered by the travel stipend deadline with a travel stipend.
Yes. Each team should have a faculty advisor attend with the students. We do welcome college/university Presidents, administrators, and faculty to participate in this event as there will be much to engage everyone.
The deadline for registration is Friday, February 7, 2025, at 11:59 PM Eastern.
We encourage teams to be comprised of 5-8 students of which at least 50% identify as women and at least 50% identify as Black or are of the African diaspora, if institutionally applicable.

Information about our Official Host Hotel will be provided upon registration for the 8th Annual HBCU Battle of the Brains. Due to the sensitive nature of working with students, we prefer to keep this information private.
Check-In will take place on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, from 6:00 PM – 12:00 PM at our Official Host Hotel.
No. Each college/university can only have one (1) team attend the event.
A successful team will be comprised of (but not limited to) students majoring in Accounting, Communications, Computer Science, Data Science/Analytics, Digital Media, Engineering (various), Finance, Marketing or Mathematics
Participants are not required to have prior coding experience.
